The Seattle Seahawks added pass rusher Malliciah Goodman today after losing Quinton Jefferson to a knee injury last week.

The Seattle Seahawks have been expected to make a roster move this week to add new blood along the offensive line. Today they added a lineman, but instead it was on the defensive side of the football.

The Seahawks signed defensive end Malliciah Goodman. Goodman was a 4th-round pick out of Clemson in 2013, and has spent that last three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.

Goodman replaces Quinton Jefferson on the roster. Jefferson hurt his knee in practice last week and had to be placed on injured reserve.

The loss of Jefferson left the Seahawks short handed with inside pass rushers. Jefferson replaced Jordan Hill in the rotation after Hill landed on IR (he was later released) due to a preseason injury.

At 276 pounds, Goodman is slightly undersized for that role, so his place in the remains to be seen.    Garrison Smith is another guy that could see additional time in the rotation now.

The Seahawks are also looking to replace some of Cassius Marsh’s snaps at defensive end now that he’s the starting strong side linebacker. With both Mike Morgan and Kevin Pierre-Lewis hurt, the Seahawks were forced to move Marsh to linebacker.

Either way, Goodman gives the Seahawks some options. He’s strong at the point of attack against the run when playing at defensive end, and he has bull-rush skills to occasionally get the quarterback.

Ultimately though, this move will be a disappointment for most Seahawks fans. That has nothing to do with Goodman, and everything to do with the fact that he doesn’t play offensive tackle.

Next: O-line?.. more like O-NO!

Everyone has been watching the transaction wire hoping to see the Seahawks make a trade for a veteran blocker like Joe Thomas or Joe Staley. That hasn’t happened, and at this point it likely won’t happen this week.
