Rumors of interest by the Seattle Seahawks to trade Jimmy Graham appear to be greatly exaggerated. No such move appears forthcoming.

Rumors are floating around that the Seattle Seahawks are open to trading away tight end Jimmy Graham. While that would be an interesting development, all signs point to this one rumor not having any legs.

The source of this rumor actually dates back to a year ago. Apparently the Seahawks and Dolphins discussed a Graham trade last season.

Here’s the thing though, there’s nothing in any of these reports that tell us just how far along these talks got. That is likely because these talks didn’t get very far.

The “discussion” of a Jimmy Graham trade a year ago most likely died the moment it started. The Seahawks weren’t willing to part with Graham for nothing just because he was hurt, and that was that.

Now here we are a year later and that conversation is being used to justify the idea that the Seahawks are listening to offers for Graham. I know math isn’t everyone favorite subject, but all of this doesn’t add up.

Whenever these reports come out, as yourself 2 questions: 1) Who leaked it? and 2) What might they gain from leaking it? Everything you need to know will come from the answers to those two questions.

First of all, it is obvious that this leak came from the Miami side of things. Omar Kelly has been repeatedly wrong whenever he’s tried to report on Seattle. He clearly lacks contacts with the organization that are willing to feed him accurate information.

No, this nugget of information came from someone with the Dolphins. They could be trying to show potential free agents that they’re willing to be bold. Perhaps they’re negotiating with a WR or TE and are trying to make it obvious that the team has options. Leverage is an important thing in negotiations.

If this was being reported by Jason LaConfora or Jay Glazer it would be different. Those are guys with contacts inside the Seattle front office and are the preferred outlets when the Seahawks need some info leaked.

Next: Seahawks giving back this offseason

If the Seahawks were trying to drum up more interest and get a bidding war started, this leak would have reported by those guys. It wasn’t, and the lack of such a leak tells us that the Seahawks aren’t working to find a taker for Graham.

As fun as another big trade might be to write about, I don’t believe this rumor. Sorry folks, it seems like there is nothing to see here.
