In this 7-round mock draft, we find the Seattle Seahawks using half of their picks on players right in their own backyard.

This may quite possibly be the most interesting Seahawks mock draft you’ll see this season, but it wasn’t my intent when I set out trying to project who John Schneider and Pete Carroll will welcome into the fold after the draft wraps up on April 29th. In all, I came up with exactly half of their 8 picks being used on young men who played collegiality in Washington state.

It may not be as far-fetched as it appears. While working through the simulation I quickly noticed a recurring theme: the most interesting (and in most cases logical) players on the board when it was Seattle’s turn were often players with a local connection.

Once again, I chose to use the outstanding simulation tool at www.first-pick.com to conduct this mock. Their prospect rankings always seem to be as comprehensive as all the rest, and it allows you to move around the board with trades, all while allowing you to see exactly what the rest of the teams are doing in front of you. If you haven’t tried it yet you absolutely should, but with one caveat……. it’s addicting. You’ve been warned.

I began this draft by pulling a very Schneider-esque move…. dealing down. With only seven selections in hand (including none in rounds four and five, his traditional sweet spot) you know the Hawks G.M. would love to acquire a few more. In a draft generally thought to be weak at the QB position, however, that may be easier said than done. Fortunately, Clemson star Deshaun Watson is still on the board at #26, and the Cleveland Browns pounced on the chance to move up and grab a young signal-caller for Hugh Jackson to groom. Seattle moves down to the first pick in the both the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

And with that, our 7-round Seattle Seahawks mock draft commences, beginning with two former college teammates who won’t even have to move to attend training camp. Unless, that is, they want to get an apartment together.
