12s Have Little to Fear But Ourselves
By Aaron Thomas
Seahawks receive favorable schedule in 2017; 12s should rejoice
The NFL schedule was released yesterday and by the early looks of it, the Seahawks have some really great things to look forward to. Three primetime home games, limited possibility of snowy games, only one 10 AM game (which hasn’t been a factor recently) and strength of schedule. These all point to the Seahawks having one less thing to worry about.
We look across the country to one of our arch nemesis, the New England Patriots. What they’ve done to accumulate the talent may have some 12s wondering if we should be worried going forward.
We look inside our own locker room at the distraction that has been the Sherman conundrum as well as Lynch’s desire to come back to an NFL team not named the Seahawks. Even still, we need to all take a collective breath; things will be okay.
We have little to fear but ourselves knowing that we still possess the opportunity to boast one of the NFL’s top 5 defenses and a quarterback who, like fine bottle of cabernet, gets better with time.
The Sherman Trade Aspect
Even if one of the worst things that could happen this year unfolds in front of our eyes and Sherm gets dealt, we need to still have belief that our team will be better for it. I know, these are tough words to swallow, but it’s true.
I only bring up the fact that Sherm could still be dealt because once again the Seahawks brass, having every opportunity to spit on a small fire that has begun, decided to use words that leave that door slightly cracked.
John Schneider used the words, ‘Right Now’, in his comment: “Right now, I don’t think the odds are very good,” when talking to Seattle media about trading Sherman.
As a season ticket holder, I invest a lot of time and, yes, money to keeping up with the Seahawks franchise. Every transaction they make (or don’t make) is looked upon pretty keenly because of my investment.
As a fan of the Seahawks, and all the investment in time and money that has been deposited towards this team, I still think that the only fear we should be worried about at this time is ourselves. When I say ourselves, I mainly mean the guys who suit up for our team and the ones behind the Executive desks.
I’m not going to go as far as hated-rival Aaron Rodgers’ “R-E-L-A-X” comment, but I do have his confidence and swag when I say that the Seahawks in 2017 are going to be a collective movement to greatness.
Have faith, 12s
Those who follow me know that I have a big man-crush on John Schneider and Pete Carroll, mainly because they encompass what a great organization should: heart, passion, brains, fortitude under great pressure and the love for human beings.
If all of the question marks going into the draft was with a different regime, I would not have as much faith in this team going forward. WIN FOREVER is a great mantra. I know that no matter what happens between now and the NFL draft in six days, the Seahawks will still be a gnat in the eye line of the Cardinals, a Larry Bird to the New England Magic Johnson and moreover, a team that will find a way to gel at the right time for the right reasons.
No one can stop this team, but they and I know that when the cards fall, the Seahawks team will not. This is from 32 years of experience watching this team, seeing them almost go all the way in the 80s, have mediocrity in the 90s and enjoying the last five years of greatness.
