This past week has seen me dip a toe into the world of bicycle commuting. I’ve been thinking about doing this for the last three years. I bought a bike and everything, outfitted with fenders and saddle bags, that has been hanging up, until now. I like riding it, it’s a decent bike, and it makes me feel a little more Seattle-y, which I am ok with.

Spring is tip-toeing into the PNW so very delicately that it might be easy to miss. But it is happening! I’m checking out the forecast and it’s looking like Friday will be the day to get some vitamin D. Which will work, because you’re going to call in sick and head out to one of Washington’s four National Parks where you can get in free for National Park Week! Check out Fort Vancouver, Lewis & Clark, Mt. Rainier and/or Olympic park and get your nature on.

Start your Earth Day observations early at Peddler Brewing Company with a brew party and outdoor, under-cover film screening. 1$ from every pint sold will go to benefit Washington Wild. Two films will be screened focusing on the often-quarlesome relationship between environmental preservationists and mountain bikers, “This American Land” (8 min.) and “Pedal-Driven” (68 min.). Free admission, screening starts at 7:30. The Napkin Friends food truck will be there from 5-9. Come on down and compare beards with the many that are likely to be in attendance.

In honor of the 4-20 “holiday” I’d recommend The Dope Show Friday Night at the Eclectic Theater in Capitol Hill. A line-up of comedians will deliver two sets, one straight-minded, and the other after a few minutes of thorough imbibing. Featuring the hilarity of Rachelle Cochran, Tim McDonald, Dwayne Paul Cullen, and Jenn Snyder. Come laugh till you snort. You know you will!

BunnyCon is on, yo!

Celebrate the Season of New Beginnings (spring!) with a pub craw 1,000 strong where everyone is dressed as bunnies! Yes, it’s Seattle BunnyCon! Come dressed as a bunny (at LEAST bunny ears) or something that might signify spring and enhance the ambiance. They’re starting at 11:30 at The Blarney Stone downtown and following a pre-planned route (see their Facebook page) that will keep pub-crawling till last call. There will be no cover for bunnies.

If pub crawls aren’t your thing, perhaps a taco crawl is? Saturday starting at 3 pm join in a taco crawl that will hit way too many places for anyone to actually try, but if you order small and stay optimistic (and hydrated), you might be able to try more then you thought! Check their Facebook page (Taco Crawl Seattle!) to see the places on the vast itinerary. Bring your bike/orca card/designated driver because they are planning on covering some serious ground.

Finally for this weekend, think about taking a whale watching jaunt aboard the Victoria Clipper. Gray whales are making their yearly migration north, and it’s a good time to catch them passing through. Tickets are $65-$70 and there will be a quick stop in the picturesque town of Langley (my parents love Langley for the antique shops), then back in Seattle by day’s end.
