Two NFC Rivals trade picks and San Francisco 49ers move back into first round and Seattle Seahawks trade out

So, the Seahawks did not disappoint. They did what they always do: trade down. By trading up the 49ers chose Reuben Foster with the 31st pick. This was a good move for both teams. Seattle now has ten picks in this draft after beginning with only seven. The 49ers made another good defensive pick by adding Foster. Foster goes along with Solomon Thomas who the 49ers chose earlier in the first round.

At this point it is fair to say that the 49ers have the potential to improve much faster than the Los Angeles Rams. They also are beginning to look a bit sturdier than the Arizona Cardinals long-term. Sure, San Francisco will still be terrible next year and probably the year after that as well. But they are rebuilding in the right way, with defense.

Foster was one of the more surprising drops in the draft. He obviously has had some off-field issues this offseason, but the shock is how far he dropped. Foster has top-five talent.

The Seahawks did not miss out on any real targets. Cornerback Kevin King is still available. So is offensive tackle Cam Robinson. In fact, the Seahawks now have so many second and third round picks combined – six – that they could risk taking a chance on cornerback Sidney Jones as well. Both King and Jones played at the University of Washington.

The expectation is that the Seahawks load up on defense is rounds two and three with an offensive lineman (or two) sprinkled in. It definitely should be an exciting Day Two for Seahawks fans.
