Seattle Seahawks trade out of the first round: Day 1 Review
By David Stobbe
The Seattle Seahawks traded out of the first round and gained another two picks in process, for the second day of the draft.
Seahawks fans were left with some disappointment after the first round of the NFL Draft, after John Schneider decided to make two trades. This gives the team several more picks in the draft, though, and should benefit them in the long run.
The Seahawks traded with the Falcons first and then proceeded to trade with the 49ers to move out of the first round. They added a third round, fourth round, and a seventh round pick. And, they will be drafting at the 49ers former pick slotted at 34.
There are a lot of good players available, especially in rounds 2 and 3. Tomorrow will certainly be an important day for the team.
The Seahawks should have a golden opportunity to get a top offensive lineman in the top of the second round, with both Cam Robinson and Forrest Lamp available.
Lamp is one of my favorite players in the entire draft. He would be able to start day one on the team’s offensive line, slotting in at right guard.
Another player that Seahawks fans love is Kevin King and he is still available. He is a tall cornerback, in a similar mold to Richard Sherman. He would come in and compete at the corner spot opposite of Sherman.
Some of the other top players that are still available are: Obi Melifonwu, Dalvin Cook, Malik McDowell, Chris Wormley, Budda Baker, and Chidobe Awuzie. We can expect these players to all get drafted taken early on in the second round.
Later on in the second round the Seahawks could be looking at a cornerback such as Ahkello Witherspoon. I had him in my mock draft, and if the Seahawks miss out on Kevin King, then Witherspoon would be a really nice option.
So, although there is some disappointment among Seahawks fans, there should be excitement for the second and third round. There are a significant amount of impact players that they can find tomorrow and on Saturday. Make sure to get a lot of sleep tonight, as tomorrow will be a busy one.
