With their second pick in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft, the Seahawks take LSU center Ethan Pocic

The Seahawks are in need at several positions. Offensive line, defensive back and more. Thankfully for Seahawks fans, Seattle filled a need at defensive tackle with Malik McDowell with their first pick in the draft. Possibly also thankfully the Seahawks took an offensive lineman with their second pick in the draft. Pocic is one of the newest Seattle Seahawks.

Is Pocic a “sexy” pick? No. But he was rated the number one center in Walter Football’s pre-draft rankings. The problem is that the Seahawks do not need a center. Justin Britt was pretty good last year.

That said, it appears that the Seahawks are thinking one of two things. First, Britt moves once again on the line and goes to guard. Second, Pocic moves from center to guard. If Pocic moves to guard, this means that Germain Ifedi will definitely move to tackle. The offensive line will look like left tackle Luke Joeckel, left guard Mark Glowinski, center Britt, right guard Pocic and right tackle Ifedi.

This does not mean the Seahawks are worse on the line than 2016. In fact, they are most likely better. Still, they will be young once again. Is there talent? Yeah, of course. In fact, Tom Cable may love the versatility of this group. Players can be moved and (hopefully) be productive.

Pocic also supplies depth even if he does not start. This may be what is expected of him in 2017. Is he an immediate answer to fix the line? Probably not. But he could be a long-term answer towards forming a good line.
