Seahawks re-sign an old friend at quarterback

Jake Heaps was a Seahawk for all of the 2016 season, though he only played in the preseason. Heaps did throw 19 passes in preseason play. Or seven more than he threw as a senior in college. Heaps played at three different colleges – Brigham Young University, the University of Kansas and the University of Miami – and was not successful at any of the three. Heaps did play at local Skyline High School, however. Possibly the Seahawks keep Heaps around because he knows where all the best local doughnuts shops are.

(Top Pot! Hello!)

Ethan Pocic: The Seahawks new right tackle?

Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that Pocic “has the height” to play right tackle, according to Pete Carroll. If the idea is to have Pocic, a great center in college, bounce outside to tackle, this might mean Germain Ifedi stays inside at guard. I realize just suggesting what might happen with the offensive line is complete folly. Still, it is May and it is fun to speculate.

A line of Luke Joeckel at left tackle, Mark Glowinski at left guard, Justin Britt at center, Ifedi at right guard and Pocic at right tackle could easily be the starting unit in week one. Or it could never happen. The Seahawks like to toy with ideas.

Doug Baldwin Drops in Value, According to NFL.com

Baldwin ranks number 88 on the list of 100 best players going into 2017. Baldwin ranked at number 72 in last year’s list. In 2016, Baldwin set career highs for passes caught (94) and yards receiving (1,128). This means if Baldwin again breaks his career bests he will probably drop completely out of the top 100 list. Because that is what happens with many great players. They get better but the league gets tired of viewing them as improving.

All of this probably means nothing to Baldwin. He has an inner desire that drives him to prove others wrong. That works for him. But it also works well for the Seahawks.
