It’s Cinco de Mayo weekend! Enjoy it, 12s!

I feel somewhat confident saying that spring has finally arrived, 12s. This morning’s air is rife with the tweets of birds, which is a welcomed change from the tweets of presidents. And though our beloved Russell Wilson doesn’t live in Seattle proper (he lives in Bellevue), the addition of his new baby girl Sienna makes it official. It. Is. Spring!

Forces will converge this Friday as Cinco de Mayo lands on the same day as the launching of Seattle Beer Week. There are so many things going on around the city in recognition of these two observances that you might find yourself celebrating and not even know why. I would advise you to just go with it. Join in the festivities, don’t struggle against the current. Order another Corona (or craft beer from any number of participating local breweries) and start laughing a little louder. (Or a lot.)

I’m not going to feature every event affiliated with Cinco de Mayo or Seattle Beer Week, but I’ll highlight a couple that stand out: Tacos Guaymas is hosting a block party at their Green Lake location. There will be stacks of Mexican food, specials on margaritas and beer for your overconsumption. Are you tough enough for the jalapeño eating contest? Show the crowd what you’re made of and win prizes! Festivities start Friday at noon and will extend till 2 am Saturday morning.

Beer Week arrives at Safeco Field Friday for Brewery Night at the Ballpark. $57 (tickets only available online) gets you into the pregame event. You’ll get two pints of beer, a commemorative pint glass and two good seats for the game. 12 local breweries will be showing their stuff, come out and swill some barley pop!

Other great events

Friday night at Neumo’s features music from Seattle favorites Lowlands, Home Sweet Home, Charlie and the Rays, and Sleeping Lessons. I’ve had Lowland’s new album “The Valley Below” on regular rotation in my headphones for the last few weeks, some very good stuff on there. Come out and see it live, 12s! Tickets are $10 in advance/$12 at the door. It starts at 8.

If you have a bunch of drool and you’re looking for a place to let it dribble, maybe check out the 10th Annual Red Square Charity Car Show at the UW’s Red Square. There will be something for every car enthusiast, classic muscle cars, modern exotics, souped up and modded out customs, you name it. The event is free, but there’s a suggested donation of $5 to benefit PAWS animal charities. Sunday from 12-4 pm.

Are you an armchair quarterback like me? Perhaps a visit to the Flagstick Pub in Pioneer Square is in order for their observation of Seattle Beer Week as they hold a football throwing contest! When you get a beer from one of the three participating breweries (Pike, Reuben’s or Stoup), you’ll get a chance to competitively throw a football. The brewery with the most points from the armchair quarterbacks will get a dedicated tap at Flagstick Pub for two months. There will also be individual prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Come prove you have what it takes to make it in the NFL! Or at least that you have what it takes to drink beer and throw a football.

A complete listing of all the locations participating in Seattle Beer Week can be found at seattlebeerweek.com. There are many, many places.
