Looking for something to do this weekend, 12s? Here you are…

Seattle managed to string together more then one sunny day. I’m calling this a victory and breaking out the sunblock. Even though it’s windy and cold and blowing rain as I’m writing this, hope is found in that very short string of sunshine we were bathed in. The sky is gray now, but I know the sun is still there. When it shows it’s face again, I will be there to greet it.

Upstream Festival!

Probably the main event for this weekend is the Upstream festival. If you haven’t heard of Upstream, do yourself a favor and google it, I’ll wait… Did you do it? No? Well, go open a new tab on your internet browser! Ok, now that you’re back on this tab you know that Upstream is a three-day music and arts festival descending onto Pioneer Square all weekend. You found out (on the other tab) that Upstream is Paul Allen’s vision of a North West-centric, SXSW-style large-scale festival.

This festival will feature more then 300 music acts, as well as speakers like Quincy Jones and Macklemore. Plus, there’ll be workshops for artists and musicians trying to get their craft off the ground. Tickets will run $65 for a one-day pass, up to $425 for a complete VIP experience. The list of artists is so vast, surely there will be something in the style of music you like, even if it’s in a style of music that I don’t like.

Just like the mighty Voltron joining forces to create something far more powerful, the Phinney and Greenwood art walk communities are teaming up for a once-per-year art walk that can only be named “The BIG one.” 31 blocks (59th through 90th streets) and more then 80 business will participate in the art-walking merriment. You’re definitely going to find something that scratches your fancy. Eat, peep artwork, get your steps in. Friday 6-9 pm, Saturday 12-5 pm.

Are you a fan of chocolate and port wine?

Get your “posh” on down in Georgetown for Port and Chocolate Tasting hosted by Fran’s Chocolates. Stick your pinky out while the “resident expert” educates you on tasting and pairing port and chocolate. And despite the fact that this sounds like an event Robin Leach might attend (is Robin Leach still around?), it’s only going to set you back $15. You probably don’t even have to watch your cuss words. This all happens at Fran’s Chocolates in Georgetown Saturday from 12-2 pm.

Naked City Brewing is hosting the 4th annual Washers Tournament on Saturday from 1-5 pm in their Walrus Beer Garden. Perhaps I’m not as cool as you are, so I had to look up how to play Washers. It turns out it’s quite similar to horseshoes or corn hole; an easy back yard game that can be played with beer-in-hand. Lessons start at 1 pm, then the tourney begins at 2. There’s room for 16 two-person teams. Come out and show off your unbelievable tossing abilities. Or just join in with the taunting crowd.

Tattoos for Mom!

Is your mom worthy? Mine is! (Hi mom!) Does your mom have a tattoo? Take her down to the Lunchbox Laboratory Sunday where she will be fed for free! If your mom doesn’t have any ink, there are plenty of tattoo shops around town where she can get marked. I recommend Super Genius Tattoo. That’s where I got my last ink done. Or you could just accept a temporary tattoo handed out for free to unqualified moms. Basically, all moms are welcome.

And finally, moms deserve to laugh. Especially after they somehow fit our fat heads through their loins. They deserve laughter. So bring your mom down to Unexpected Production’s Market Theater in Post Alley (pretty much right AT the Gum Wall) for an improv show inspired by moms and motherhood. Moms get in for $5, but it’ll be $15 for the rest of us fat heads. Your mom has earned it!
