The Seahawks rookie minicamp wrapped this Sunday with about an hour of on-field action. By all accounts (meaning Coach Carroll) there were some excellent performances. You’ll also find interviews with several more rookies below.

Lawler stands out

Kenny Lawler had an excellent camp this weekend, particularly on Sunday when he accounted for the only touchdown out of six series in all. If Lawler’s name seems familiar, don’t sweat the flashbacks. You’re right, he was at the 2016 rookie camp. As he didn’t make the active roster last year, he’s back – and as they say, better than ever. You can get the full story here from the Seattle Times’ great Bob Condotta.

The defensive rookies speak up

First we have new Seahawk safety Tedric Thompson on his views of minicamp.

Among other insights, Thompson said:

"“The DBs, we just try to push ourselves just like Coach Carroll and the rest of the coaching staff and the rest of our teammates are trying to do. We’re just trying to find that bond for ourselves."

On watching Earl Thomas:

"“Yeah, it’s kind of crazy because growing up in high school I used to watch his film a lot when I kinda started getting recruited and trying to learn how to actually play football and learn a lot about defenses. Just to see how he gets from one hash to another, how he leads his teammates…”"

Not a bad role model, Mr. Thompson. Not bad at all.

Next up, defensive lineman Nazair Jones on technique and transitioning to the pros.

On how he’ll fit in on the defensive line:

"“I think I’m right where I want to be. I’m playing three-technique where I’ve been playing most of my college career, and a lot of the plays that we run are kind of similar to what we did at North Carolina.”"

On his first impression of Seattle:

"“It’s beautiful. I mean, I haven’t got to see it yet; I’ve seen the meeting room [laughs]. But the scenery here is beautiful, especially the lake, the greenery around the field, the mountains…you don’t get to see that at a lot of places.”"

We return to the Seahawks rookie minicamp for some thoughts from safety Delano Hill.

On if anything surprised him in minicamp:

"“Nothing surprised me. I was expecting the unexpected. I just tried to come here and compete.”"

On his partner in the safety tandem, Tedric Thompson:

"“I knew Ted for a couple months now. We worked out together for the NFL process, so we hung out together during [that], and fortunately we came to the same team, so we know each other pretty well. We communicate well.”"

We’ll close this with cornerback Mike Tyson’s session with the press.

On if anyone has emerged as a leader among the four rookie DBs:

"“I’m gonna say we all play a role. I’m gonna say we all play a role in it.”"

Cornerback and diplomat – an unusual combination, Mr. Tyson. On hearing that Coach Carroll said he reminded him a bit of Byron Maxwell, and if he’d seen any film on him:

"“I actually haven’t heard that, or watched any film on him yet. Looking forward to it though.”"

Not a bad comparison for you, Mike. Not bad at all.

We’ll have one more look at the Seahawks rookie minicamp pressers later. Until then, enjoy meeting our newest Seahawks!
