Michael Bennett: Kaepernick to Seahawks Would Be “Really Cool”
By Lee Vowell
Bennett joined 710 ESPN Seattle’s John Clayton show today to talk his offseason events, Kaepernick and more
Kaepernick joining the Seahawks would be “really cool,” according to Bennett. He said he thinks Kaepernick would also do well in the Seattle locker room. Moreover, Bennett said that when people say Kaepernick would not fit in those are “racist comments.” Bennett said specially that Pete Carroll would not let Kaepernick in Seattle be an issue on the team as Carroll is “up for challenges like that.”
Bennett said Kaepernick is “a person that’s dedicating (his) life to creating change. Why wouldn’t you want that type of leadership in your locker room?” Finally, Bennett said Seattle would be the “perfect place” for Kaepernick.
Bennett’s busy offseason
“The opportunity to give back; the opportunity to create change.” This is what Bennett’s answer was to Clayton’s question about the theme of Bennett’s offseason. Bennett also stated this was the theme to his life. To me, Bennett separates himself from other sports figures and entertainment persons by how he says what he says and how he lives what he speaks. Bennett thinks philosophically but acts realistically. There is no surface with Bennett, only feeling. We could all use more of this in the world today.
Marshawn Lynch, Cliff Avril and Bennett all visited Haiti this offseason to help build schools and homes for children and families in a challenged nation. Bennett has also gone to Tokyo and Guam to see different cultures. And for those who missed it, Bennett decided to donate his endorsement money this season to different charities. Bennett has been a busy and productive individual.
Bennett’s thoughts on Malik McDowell
When asked about mentoring recently drafted McDowell, Bennett said he thinks McDowell’s biggest challenge is simply learning to be a pro. Or as Bennett said, “(McDowell) needs to learn from the great leaders (such as Avril).” McDowell needs to know that “every play is the last play in the NFL.”
This is an indication that Bennett is aware of McDowell’s reputation, deserved or not, that McDowell does not play hard every down. Or it could also simply be what Bennett tells every young player. One thing that every Seahawk fan knows is, Bennett goes after every play like it may be his last.
