Nazair Jones signs a four-year deal

On Friday, Jones became the sixth member of the 11 player 2017 Seattle Seahawks draft class to sign with the team. The defensive lineman was taken in the third round and was the 102nd overall player to go. Jones is expected to be the backup nose guard in 2017.

He has the size, though, to become a stalwart at the position for several years in Seattle. Jones is 6’5″ and 300 pounds, but has the height to add more weight if needed. After signing a four-year contract, the Seahawks appear to have that expectation for him as well. Jarran Reed will only be entering his second year with the team. Ahtyba Rubin, however, will turn 31 years old in July. Seattle has not made an attempt to resign Tony McDaniel from last season’s team. Clearly, Seattle is trying to make younger, and therefore less expensive.

The other drafted rookies to have signed this offseason are Chris Carson, David Moore, Mike Tyson, Tedric Thompson and Justin Senior. That top pick and defensive lineman Malik McDowell, cornerback Shaquill Griffin, safety Delano Hill, offensive lineman Ethan Pocic and receiver Amara Darboh have not been inked is not a concern. The expectation is that the Seahawks will have all their draft class signed prior to mandatory training camp.

Jones overcame an illness that caused him to not be able to walk when he was 15 years old. That disease is called complex regional pain syndrome. While in college, he mentored youth with a charity called M.A.D.E Man.

Prior to last weekend’s rookie training camp, 12th Man Rising’s podcast, The Seahawks Show, was able to talk with Jones and gets his thoughts on his rookie year and more.
