Guess Who Won’t Be the Seahawks Backup Quarterback?

If you don’t realize we’re talking about Colin Kaepernick, welcome back to civilization. Hope your trip to the Andaman Islands went well. Pretty fascinating place, so we even provided you a link. Don’t try for Nicobar – you can’t get there from anywhere. Okay, back to the Seahawks.

As we mentioned earlier, Pete Carroll had a pretty interesting press conference today. By “pretty interesting”, we mean seventeen minutes of the best video you’ll watch this year. That includes that supercut of “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2” we all know is coming. After a brief discussion of some surprising appearances at the OTAs, including rave reviews of the work Earl Thomas put in, Pete threw down about all the rumours of locker room turmoil. Entertaining stuff, although the reporters writing all this stuff probably didn’t think so.

Then someone asked about Kaepernick joining the Seahawks

Back to Colin Kaepernick, the best unemployed quarterback in the world. Don’t believe me? Listen to Pete:

"“Colin’s been a fantastic football player. He’s gonna continue to be. At this time we didn’t do anything with it. We know where he is and who he is and we had a chance to understand him much more so. He’s a starter in this league.”"

So if Kap’s so great, why didn’t the Seahawks pull the trigger? Why isn’t Kaepernick in Action Green already?

"“We have a starter. [Kaepernick’s] a starter and I can’t imagine that someone won’t give him a chance to play.”"

When asked if that means the Seahawks have moved on and have closed the door on a deal with their former rival, Carroll replied:

"“The doors are always open for opportunities”"

For those of you who prefer to hear it from the coach’s mouth, move to 7:15 in Coach Carroll’s presser:

As for Kaepernick’s ability, we’ve written about that already. Many didn’t want to see him in Seattle for his political stance. Others couldn’t stomach seeing a former 49er on the Seahawks sideline. It’s really time to drop the argument that Kap can’t play – unless you know more about football than Pete Carroll. In a league that gives starting jobs to Mike Glennon and Blaine Gabbert…surely there’s an accepted journalist’s standard for that internet standby, smh. Ah yes – the mind boggles. That’s what I was looking for.

The Seahawks may continue to look for a backup quarterback as well. Just remember – “The doors are always open for opportunities”.
