Seahawks offensive line coach Tom Cable took a lot of heat for the performance of the line in the past. Today he’s the most excited coach on the Seahawks staff.

The Seahawks wrapped their final day of OTAs, and it was offensive line coach Tom Cable’s turn to meet the press. Or perhaps face the Seahawks nation. As you can imagine, there was a lot of concern about the offensive line. When asked for his outlook on their status, Cable said:

"“I’m excited as camp approaches. I think we have  made some progress towards being ready to go to training camp. That means teaching the offense and getting the young kids involved. I think we’re right where we should be at this point.”"

Next Cable was asked what he could see from his players without contact

"“If they understand what we’re doing. I think that’s a great point. We’ll get to the contact part of it, combative part of it, once we get to training camp. The way the rules are now, it’s about learning and teaching your team. I think they’ve done a fantastic job of that.”"

Seahawks see a lot of promise in undrafted free agent Jordan Roos

"“He’s exceeded what we had hoped for. You never know. They see those guys as late draft picks or free agents for whatever reason. He’s come in and shown that he belongs in the NFL. We’ll just keep trying to develop him. He’s not ready to play yet but we’re working toward that.”"

In case you forgot, Roos is the kid who hit 41 reps at his pro day. Yep, he benched 225 pounds 41 times. The most any offensive lineman at the NFL Combine could manage was 35 reps. Our friends at the great Kansas City Chiefs site arrowheadaddict.com had this interview with Roos last month. You can see why the Seahawks love this kid.

Cable on how he feels about the line now compared to the same time last season

"“I’m the most excited coach on the staff right now. That’s what I told Coach and John. I appreciate them putting this back together in a year’s time and doing a fantastic job. Our personnel guys nailed this. So it’s just a matter of getting right spots and go play ball.”"

The Seahawks definitely have improved the line. The majority of that improvement is simply young players getting better. George Fant is a perfect example of this. It’s no wonder Cable is excited. 12s should be excited too.

We present Tom Cable’s  entire press conference for your viewing pleasure. He had a lot to say about Justin Britt, the left side of the line, and – well, see for yourself. Enjoy!
