The Seahawks have had some good running backs in the time they have been a franchise; they just have not had a lot of them. Still the top five would be good in any era.

I am not trying to pooh-pooh the list of running backs the Seahawks have had over the years. There have been many who have been very good. Mainly, though, the Seahawks have tried to have one featured back in different seasons over their 41 years. Especially since Pete Carroll became the coach. Has Seattle had some decent depth in recent years? Yes. But those backs only played many snaps because the number-one back was injured. For instance, Thomas Rawls had a productive year in 2015 only after Marshawn Lynch missed games because of injury.

There are some current Seahawks who rank in the top 20 of rushing yards in Seattle’s history. No current Seahawks are among the five best running backs in Seattle’s past. For example, the number eight player in Seattle’s all-time rushing yards is quarterback Russell Wilson. Not a running back. Number 15 is Thomas Rawls, but his career total is far behind the top five. He might get on the top list one day, but that would be many seasons from now.

Actually, number 18 is quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. He was not really known as a runner. This shows how top-heavy the top five (or even top-seven) list is.

I am not here to write about the backups or quarterbacks, though. The highlight of this article are the studs the Seahawks have handed the ball off to. Here are the five best.
