Seahawks offensive line projected as worst in NFL. I see things differently

I have good reason to differ with PFF’s conclusions

Hey, I’m not the only one to say the line will be better. Remember Coach Cable’s ecstatic pronouncements? There are good reasons to believe this wasn’t just coachspeak, either. As the coaches have said, they had an extremely young line in 2016, and all those players have that year to build on.

George Fant in particular stands out. Last year he was basically a physically overmatched basketball player playing left tackle. It’s no surprise he was the lowest graded left tackle, is it? Coming into this season, he’s made a lot of changes. He’s much stronger and much bigger. And when Walter Jones takes you under his wing, good things are likely to happen.

So, no, George Fant isn’t likely to move out of the starting lineup. With all of the offseason work he’s done, he’s much more likely to anchor it, in fact.

It isn’t just Fant that will fix this

Fant isn’t the only reason for hope, either. PFF mentions Luke Joeckel. As things stand now, he is likely to play at left guard next to Fant. Justin Britt turned a lot of heads at center last year, and is a lock to return and improve. Both Mark Glowinski and Germain Ifedi are likely returning to the right side, Ifedi to tackle where he played in college.

And we can’t forget jack-of-all-offensive-line-trades Ethan Pocic. If he doesn’t win a starting position outright, he can fill in admirably anywhere on the line. Larry Stone of The Seattle Times  wrote an excellent piece on Pocic’s versatility, so it isn’t just us that sees this. Pete Carroll had this to say about Pocic in the article:

"“We’ve seen so much of him playing center, I don’t think right now that’s where he needs to focus. I know he can back up just based on what we’ve seen. We’re going to work him there because we want to fortify that, but really we want to see him in other spots as we go through.”"

Despite the gloomy projections you may see, we agree with Coaches Carroll and Cable. There’s a lot to be excited about on the Seahawks offensive line.
