Seahawks training camp opens July 30th. So what exactly are all the cool kids – that is, the Seahawks players- doing this summer?
The Seahawks are certainly blessed with a lot of civic-minded players. If you weren’t already aware of that, you’re about to see a lot of proof.
Let’s kick it off with the most recent example. Bobby Wagner and Earl Thomas took part in the Bowl with the Pros event in Lakeway Texas. The event was a benefit for several Austin area youth charities. Here’s Thomas in action:
Okay, so now we know his next career move. In about ten years, let’s hope.

Michael Bennett is hanging out with kids, too
Next Sunday, July 9th would be a great day to live in Hawaii. Okay, I’m sure every days is a great day to live there. But on July 9th, Michael Bennett will be hosting the O.C.E.A.N Sports Camp at the University of Hawaii. The purpose? it’s to fight Obesity through Community, Education, Activity and Nutrition. Bennett held one camp in South Dakota two weeks ago. Here’s his next in Honolulu:
Bennett also partnered with King County to create a gardening program for kids in the juvenile detention program. A great program that incorporates biology, nutrition, and more than a little sweat equity.

This doesn’t even count his foundation’s partnership with iamtheCODE, which we mentioned in a previous article. Bennett is one busy guy!

Oh, and that photo at the beginning of this article? Michael and his brother Martellus won the Shine A Light Award at the BETs for their outstanding community service. Okay, enough of the Michael Bennett show. Let’s give someone else a chance to shine.
It doesn’t have to be about public service
While community service is certainly great, everyone has to have a little me time. Eddie Lacy is doing just that.

I have a feeling most 12s are very happy to see this. Service to others is one thing, but getting down to 245 is what everyone really likes to see from Lacy. I know this: if the P90X program does it for him, Tony Horton needs to pay this man some money.
Not that Lacy doesn’t contribute to his community. All proceeds from his Green Bay garage sale went to charity. In case you thought Lacy wasn’t popular with Packer fans any more, check out this photo of the line posted by Pete Dougherty, columnist for the Green Bay Press-Gazette:

One more generous Seahawk, just for the cause
Russell Wilson does a lot of work in the community. He’s very active with the Seattle Children’s Hospital, of course. He also hosts his charity golf tournament, the Wilson Celebrity Invitational. The tourney raises funds to battle pediatric cancer. Here’s Wilson teeing off:

One final note. I deliberately excluded Richard Sherman from this article. My deadline isn’t Thursday, and I don’t have time to add in everything the man does. Okay, fine, but just one!

So many of the Seahawks give so much back to their community. I’ve written this many times, and happily will continue to do so: this is a group of men that earns even more respect off the field than on it.
