What the heck happened?: Seahawks versus Vikings, second half
By Lee Vowell
The starters exited for the Seattle Seahawks at halftime. The guys who were left tried to earn their roster spot. Who did the best?
Second half
And then the Seahawks offensive line reverted to 2016 status. Funny how losing George Fant at left tackle with a knee injury in the first half might change the Seahawks season. This is the same Fant 12s wondered why he was even in the NFL last year. Now he will be missed. Replacement Rees Odhiambo has had a good camp, but he has not been good in the preseason games. He gave up two sacks on the first drive after halftime.
So here’s an idea. Seattle should move Mark Glowinski back to left guard, play Oday Aboushi at right guard, Luke Joeckel at left tackle, Justin Britt (of course!) at center and Germain Ifedi at right tackle. Odhiambo is not ready. Neither is Ethan Pocic. The Seahawks need to take a peek at what may be out there for tackle. They are far too thin going into the season at this point.
At running back Alex Collins was the main guy in the second half. He did not do badly as he ran for 58 yards on 10 carries. He also caught four passes for 35 yards. But the problem with Collins in limited time last year was ball control and he fumbled on Friday as well. Of course, Collins’ stats were all against backups. Chris Carson ran six times for 27 yards in the first half against starters. Collins will not make the Seahawks unless there is an injury.
Other notes
Linebacker David Bass had a good half, getting in on two quarterback hits. The linebacker room is crowded. Bass will have a tough time making the team, but he is making it hard to cut him.
Finally, Blair Walsh missed a 53-yard kick in the first half, but made one from 52 in the second. Plus, he got a little taunting in. That. Was. Awesome.

Though the Seahawks are 2-0 in the preseason – games that do not matter – Friday’s game will be more remembered for the Fant injury than anything else. I wish him a speedy recovery.
