Grading the third phase

Special Teams: (B+)

Special teams performed pretty well once again. Blair Walsh hit all of his extra points as well as two 52 yard field goals. Walsh did miss one from 53, but overall appears to be hitting the ball well. He also showed the swagger a kicker needs in this league.

Jon Ryan was his usual self and boomed a nice 62 yard punt.

Chris Carson (there’s that name again) made a nice play on kickoff coverage by forcing a fumble. Carson is certainly making the most of his opportunities and continues to make coaches notice him. J.D. McKissic handled two punts, and had an 18 yard return on a kickoff. At this point he seems more likely to make the practice squad, as he’s just filling this spot for Tyler Lockett.

Those are the grades for this week. Next week will serve as  a little more of a true barometer for this 2017 Seahawks team. Week three of the preseason is typically the most action starters see as most teams leave their first unit in until at least halftime. Like many of you, I’ll be watching the offensive line very closely next week.
