The Seahawks have begun the season 1-2 but it isn’t the end of humanity as we know. Lose to the Colts on Sunday, though, and it may be. Here is the best and worst of what could happen.

The worst

Ok, I started with the worst. Because what could happen is, like, seriously horrifically bad. Think about the Seahawks beginning 2017 1-3 with a loss to a team of the quality of the Colts. No offense to the Colts, but they are without Andrew Luck. They have no reason being within two touchdowns of Seattle.

Let me be clear, however, the Colts are not without talent. It is young talent but talent is there. But the Seahawks also have lots of talent. And it is experienced talent. Too much talent to start the first quarter of the season with a losing record. And yes, today, believe it or not, represents the final game of the first quarter of 2017. The season seems to be going by so quickly. And with a loss, Seattle could be saying “bye bye” very quickly to any hopes of making the playoffs this year.

The Colts game is followed by back-to-back road games. It is never easy to win on the road in the NFL. One of those travel games is against the seemingly improved Los Angeles Rams. A loss to the Rams means falling another game back in the NFC West. The other is in New York (New Jersey?) against the Giants. The Giants are off to a disappointing start in 2017 but a win against Seattle would change things.

My point in all of this is the Seahawks have to win on Sunday. They. Must. Win.

The best

Well, I go back to my last sentence. The Seahawks have to win. The downside to losing in week four is much greater than winning. A win just means the Seahawks are back to even at 2-2.

But an impressive win? Now we are talking. If the Seahawks can score a touchdown or five in the first half, this will increase the confidence of the struggling offense quite a bit. A dominant performance by the defense – one in which they do not give up very many, if any, big plays – will help 12s sleep better at night.

The best case scenario for Seattle against the Colts is not only do they win, but they win handily.

(Just as an extra, it would be awesome to see Chris Carson run for 120 yards on Sunday.)
