Three keys to the Seahawks win over the Rams in week five
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks defeated the Rams on Sunday 16-10. It was a lower scoring game than most people predicted. Like many wins for Seattle, it was ugly. But still a win. Here are three quick reasons why they won.
The Seahawks make a habit of winning close games that do not look pretty. This is one reason when Seattle blows a team out they look so magnificent. We 12s are used to the ugly victories. On Sunday, Seattle got their first road win of 2017 in Los Angeles against the Rams. How?
Jimmy Graham in the red zone looked so easy
As Doug Baldwin said after the game so succinctly, “Finally.” The Seahawks isolated Graham in coverage and then threw him the ball for a relatively easy touchdown. The formation was simple with two receivers out wide to Wilson’s right and Graham alone to his left. Graham then simply runs a few yards into the end zone. Wilson makes a perfect throw high to Graham’s outside shoulder and, well…touchdown!
The play worked because it was so simple. Seattle doesn’t need to be fancy with these Graham red zone passes. Just let the big fella go get it. On Sunday he did, and those six points were monumental.
Frank Clark is a beast, young reader. A beast.
Clark is becoming a great player. Last season, Clark had ten sacks. Through five games this year, he has 2.5. But statistics do not always tell the entire story with Clark. The player has a knack for making big plays at the right time. Like yesterday when he blew up Rams quarterback Jared Goff, forcing Goff to fumble. Clark is extremely athletic for his size. Plus, he is 24 years old. The second-coming of Cliff Avril is already in Seattle’s house.
Give some love to Blair Walsh
How important was Walsh yesterday? Sure, he muffed a kickoff strangely, but drilled every one of his field goal attempts. And two of three were not short ones; Walsh was good from 48, 49 and 35. So far in 2017, Walsh is nine of ten on attempts. For a player who got so much hate from Vikings fans, 12s should start to give the kicker some respect. Every point mattered yesterday, and when Walsh had his chance to score points he did.

Thank you, Blair Walsh.
