The Seahawks are 3-2 to start the year. This week marks the only bye-week of the season. This is a good time to grade each unit’s production so far, starting with the quarterback.

Quarterback

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has had an odd year so far, right? At times he has consistently thrown high to receivers, several passes should have been intercepted that were not. Still, Wilson makes only-Wilson-type plays that keep the Seahawks winning games. We 12s mostly love Wilson, and why shouldn’t we? He has led Seattle to one Super Bowl and almost won another.

ESPN has Wilson currently rated 14th best in Total QBR. For reference, in 2016 Wilson was 15th. In 2015, he was fourth. His raw statistics this year are eight touchdowns passing against three interceptions (one of which was not his fault, but Wilson is also lucky he has not been picked at least three other times). He has also run for a touchdown.

Wilson still plays behind a bad line. Against the Los Angeles Rams in week five, Wilson literally threw a completion while almost completely on the ground while being sacked. This is why when we 12s sometimes get frustrated with Wilson’s play, we still know he is our guy.

The offense has struggled to generate points most of the time, though. How much of this is Wilson’s fault is difficult to determine. He started the year slowly, but then had a great second halves against the Titans and Colts. Against the Rams, he managed the game well enough in the first half to set up a Seattle win.

Of course, I am still waiting for Wilson to have several games in succession where he is brilliant. I do not expect a replay of the second half of 2015 ever again, but something close would be nice.

Grade: B-
