Seahawks to trade Jimmy Graham for Texans’ Duane Brown?
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks need offensive line help. One player Seattle has inquired about has been Duane Brown of the Houston Texans. Seattle might offer Jimmy Graham in return. And these teams happen to play each other on Sunday.
There is no secret that the Seattle Seahawks have been looking for a good left tackle. Branden Albert was in Seattle for most of a week while Seattle tried to see if he was worth the money to sign. The Seahawks have also shown interest in Duane Brown of the Houston Texans.
Rapoport slyly throws in that the trade could happen while the teams are playing. This, of course, will not happen. But it could happen after the game. There is a sense that Seattle may be aware that their window to win another Super Bowl is closing. One big problem has been the play of the offensive line over the last several years. This needs to be fixed. Now.
One good left tackle will certainly be a huge upgrade, but should Jimmy Graham be part of the deal? In a word, yes. Russell Wilson has targeted Graham more this year than any other season he has spent in Seattle. Graham is on pace for 109 targets, 14 more than in 2016. The tight end, however, is on pace for fewer touchdown receptions and the lowest yards-per-catch average of his career. Graham also is tied for the second most drops this year in the NFL. These drops include a sure first down and touchdown last Sunday versus the Giants.
Plus, Graham is in the final year of his contract in Seattle and makes $10 million a season. This money could be better spent elsewhere. Like on an offensive lineman.
