Can Seahawks passing game be as effective against Josh Norman?
Every once in a while a team has a player who can literally take away a half of the field due to their coverage skills. Those are special players. The Seahawks are lucky to have one of them, Richard Sherman, each week. But on Sunday, the offense will face one who plays for the Redskins.
Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson vs. Redskins Corner Josh Norman
The perception of the Seahawks style of football is run first. However, since the injury to Chris Carson, quarterback Russell Wilson has begun a new era of Seattle football. This is an important thing to realize: the game will be won through the air.
For example, the statistics from the Houston game.
Seahawks running backs: 17 carries, 3 yards.
To put in another way, the rushing attack was decimated when rookie Chris Carson went down and it has been unable to gain any ground. Literally.
Now, running back Eddie Lacy is the starter for Sunday.
Seahawks Wilson vs. Redskins Norman
After his career afternoon against the Texans, Wilson will look to continue his aerial attack against the Redskins.
But Seattle receivers are set to face Washington Redskins corner Josh Norman. Against the Cowboys last Sunday, in Norman’s first game back from a rib injury, he only gave up 32 yards receiving.
Seahawks’ Options
The over-the-top passes have a chance to work against Washington. Similar to last week, wide receivers Paul Richardson and Tyler Lockett running a fade or go route will test the speed of the other corners opposite Norman.
Also, it will be interesting to see how receiver Doug Baldwin comes off of the ball. He usually does his side hop to either side to get around a corner. Norman’s depth off of the line of scrimmage will give us insight as to how involved Baldwin is in the passing attack.
The tight end position is also a group to watch on Sunday. Wilson will continue to utilize Jimmy Graham and company. Whether it is Graham a majority of the time or Luke Willson. Tight ends Willson and Nick Vannett may see many opportunities. Graham, though, is a valuable asset. He can make a play no matter the defender. He just needs the ball.
