The Seahawks Thursday night game against the Cardinals was about as bad as a win can be. There was one welcome development, though..
You’ve read near countless times by now just how costly the Seahawks 22-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals was. The medical staff no doubt went into overtime during and after the game. While the win was much needed, there was another outcome Thursday night that may have even better ramifications for the Seahawks playoff hopes. That was the long-awaited arrival of defensive end Dion Jordan.
Jordan was signed by Seattle back in April of this year. He was coming off an injury which had robbed him of the entire 2016 season with the Miami Dolphins. That was nothing new, as he missed all of 2015 as well. Between injuries and suspensions, the former first round pick hadn’t played a down since December of 2015. He faced setback after setback with Seattle as well. At times it seemed he’d never see the field.
Thursday, he was finally ready. With Michael Bennett hurting and Cliff Avril on injured reserve, the Seahawks desperately needed Jordan to come through. He did more than that, as he recorded his first sack in nearly two years. He recorded three quarterback hits in all, and recorded two pressures, the best performance of any Seattle lineman for the night.
Jordan thankful for the Seahawks belief in him
After the game, Jordan had a lot to say about his long trip back to the field.
"“It’s a blessing, I feel thankful. I don’t know. I’m really happy right now, honestly, I’m not showing it much, but I’m really happy and thankful. I’m thankful to have the teammates I have, I’m thankful to have the coaches, the people in the training room, everybody giving me a chance. [And] I’m lucky to be able to come to work with a group of guys like this and an organization like this. I’m thankful. We have a lot of fun playing football here.”"
Jordan wasn’t the only person thankful for his return to football. Teammate Michael Bennett had this to say:
"“So happy for Dion. [He] deserved to get his sack. He’s put in all the hard work. He’s done everything we need him to get back and the best part about it is he’s been humble about it. His story is extraordinary and his work ethic is extraordinary and to see him triumph after everything he’s been through is just a beautiful moment for us as individuals, for him, and then us as a team to watch somebody go through something like that and watch them succeed.”"
Jordan took the long way back to the NFL, much of it due to what he admits were his own poor decisions. It’s clear that he’s not only found a new home with the Seahawks, but a new life as well.
