Roster moves galore by Seahawks as they prep for second half playoff stretch
The Seahawks added a lot more than just Byron Maxwell this week, adding more depth to the defensive backfield and a running back who may stay healthy.
In case you haven’t heard, the Seahawks lost alpha male Richard Sherman to a season-ending injury last week. I’ll add that if you haven’t heard it, you must have clicked the wrong link, because you’re clearly not interested in Seattle’s NFL team. Here’s that recipe for Seattle’s singing scallops you were looking for. You’re welcome.
Back to the 12s. You already know Seattle signed corner Byron Maxwell for depth in the Legion of Boom. You may have missed all the other roster moves, though. First, two players were placed on injured reserve. Running back C.J. Prosise is the more prominent player to go. Sadly, we all saw this one coming. Maybe someday he can literally not catch a break, and have a healthy season. The second player to hit the IR list is practice squad cornerback Akeem King.
Joining the active roster to replace Prosise is running back Mike Davis. Davis led all Seattle running backs in the preseason with 106 yards on 26 carries. Pete Carroll had this to say to The Seattle Times about Davis:
"“Mike has really been one of our favorites all the way back to camp,” said Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. “He had a really good offseason and a really good camp with us, and a good preseason. He can catch the football, he has contributed on special teams for us, so we see a little bit of well-roundedness in him and he is real competitive. He’s real hungry to go.”"

The Seahawks made several practice squad moves as well
Seattle signed cornerback Trovon Reed to the practice squad to replace King. He was in six games with the Los Angeles Chargers last season, where he made two picks. Reed was previously with the Seahawks practice unit in 2015, so he’s familiar with Seattle’s schemes and techniques.
Cornerback Alex Carter joins the Seattle practice squad as well. He was initially signed by the Detroit Lions, and spent some time on the New England Patriots practice squad too. The final addition this week (well, so far) is linebacker Paul Dawson. He appeared in 13 games with the Cincinnati Bengals over the past two seasons. Dawson replaces linebacker Joseph Jones, who was plucked from the Seahawks practice squad by the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are suddenly inept on defense, so of course they came after a Seahawk. Always go for the best, right?
