Seahawks versus Jaguars: Staff Predictions

Seahawks versus Jaguars. This should be a defensive stare-down. Will either team score 10 points? First team to 10 wins? Possibly. Here is how the game will go according to some of the staff at 12th Man Rising.

(Lee’s note: Like that header photo I went with? These teams don’t play very often, so…)

As December always is for Seattle, the next game is the most important. This week is no different. Seahawks travel to Jacksonville to face a very talented defense and a rushing attack, which are statistically the best in the NFL. Nonetheless, I did not mention a quarterback because the Jags still feature Blake Bortles as their signal-caller. As long as Seattle can win the line of scrimmage and the Seahawks offense continues to produce without turnovers, 12s should expect a close win for the visitors. I do not see Blake Bortles without Allen Hurns beating a Seahawks defense by himself.

Prediction: Seattle 17 Jaguars 10

The Seahawks are in the second game of the NFL’s most brutal home-stretch schedule. The team is feeling confident coming off of a huge win over the Philadelphia Eagles last week. A trip across the country to play an 8-4 Jaguars team is no small task. It’s important for the Seattle offense to stay hot if the team wants a chance in this one. The key to this game will be how well the Seahawks offensive line can hold up against a stout Jacksonville D-line. Wilson is going to take some shots, but if the guys up front can limit the hits on their quarterback, the Seahawks will have a shot to pull out the win. This is going to be a sluggish, struggle of a game. I have the Seahawks squeaking out a win.

Prediction: Seattle 20 Jaguars 16

Todd Vandenberg

The Jaguars in many ways are the opposite of the Eagles. Both have tough defenses, but the Jaguars excel against the pass (number one in both yards and touchdowns allowed) while the Eagles were in the middle of the pack. While the Eagles excelled against the run, the Jaguars are vulnerable. They rank 20th in yards allowed and 28th in yards per attempt. I see that evening out – which leaves it to the quarterbacks. Hmmm…Bortles or Wilson…tough decision, but I think I’ll go with Mr. MVP. (Sense the snarkiness there?) Points will be hard to come by, but I see a win here.

Prediction: Seattle 23 Jaguars 19

So I never pick the Seahawks to win, right? Almost every time I do pick them to win, they lose. This goes to show you how often they lose because I rarely pick them to win. Blame me. I have faith that Seattle will win almost always, but I am the master of the universe sadly.

That said, how huge of a win was Sunday against the Eagles? Does it give a false sense of hope going forward? Or is this just another example of Seattle dominance in the second half of the season?

The Jaguars have to see this as a statement game. They say they do not, but they’re human so they must. But like I have said many times this week, if the Jags had Russell Wilson, the Jaguars would be the best team in the NFL. They don’t. Seattle does. Seattle should win in a low-scoring game.

Prediction: Jaguars 45 Seattle 3 (See what I did there?)
