If Pete Carroll does leave, who’s the next coach of the Seahawks?
No one wants to see the end of Pete Carroll in Seattle. Well, almost no one. But if he does go, who should take his place?
Okay, there are some fans who don’t like Pete Carroll’s leadership style. They think Pete’s philosophy of letting the Seahawks players be themselves has created a lack of discipline. That the lack of discipline in turn has cost them games.
Pete has coached that way since he was about three years old, of course. Seattle has been to two Super Bowls and won one. The Seahawks have won nine playoff games under his “lackadaisical” guidance, and are gunning for their sixth straight playoff appearance. Yes, they need a win over the Cardinals and a loss by the Falcons for this to happen. Considering that Seattle has been doubly decimated by injuries this season, I think it’s a decent performance. Most fans would cut off their right arm for that record. Well, cut off their current coach’s right arm, for sure.
12 players on injured reserve (and it was 13 until Tre Madden was activated this week) is tough to overcome. Especially when that includes one of the league’s best strong safeties in Kam Chancellor and his counterpart at cornerback, Richard Sherman. Throw in George Fant, Cliff Avril, and Chris Carson, who was finally putting the ground into your ground game, and it’s really an excellent coaching performance.

Well, other than that insanely awful fake field goal against the Falcons. Worst coaching decision of Pete Carroll’s career indeed. Unless he decides to retire after this season. In case you were wondering, more than one writer is speculating about Pete’s future. Makes me kind of sick to think about it.
Nonetheless, here we are contemplating a Seahawks future without the gum-chewing purveyor of positivity. Here are a few names that I can see on the sidelines at CenturyLink Field.
