Looking at the worst case: is this the end of the Legion of Boom?
Who would join the new Legion of Boom?
So, worst case scenario, you have a good corner in Griffin, and two unproven safeties in Thompson and Hill. Time for an infusion of talent. Some good safeties will be on the market. Lamarcus Joyner of the Rams was the third highest ranked safety last year, is just 27 years old, and did I mention we’d be taking the Rams best safety? Then again, at 5’8″ and 190 pounds he doesn’t fit the Legion of Boom profile. Other than making all the plays, that is.
Another top safety on the market is Tre Boston, last with the Chargers. At 6’1″ and 205 and just 25 years old, he fits what Seattle wants. His passer rating against was just 39.6. He’s not great at stopping the run, though, so that’s a concern.
At cornerback, I’ll throw out two names. Kyle Fuller led the league with 17 pass defenses for the Bears and had a passer rating against of just 69.0. At 6’0″ has the size the Seahawks like at corner, and he’s just 25 years old. The other guy? I believe you’ve heard of Malcolm Butler already.
So how likely is this upheaval?
Frankly, not too likely. Sherman is expected to be back and healthy. Earl Thomas may hold out, but I have to believe it would be pretty short-lived, much like Kam Chancellor’s holdout was. Coleman is expected to be re-signed, and there’s a very good chance Maxwell will return as well.
Speaking of our All World strong safety, that Instagram pic does throw a few chills…
Chancellor has to do what’s best for him and his family, of course. We hope he’s healthy enough to live life to the fullest. If that includes returning to the Legion of Boom, even better. Chancellor’s health is my only real concern here. I’m optimistic that 12s won’t have to worry about too many of these worst-case scenarios.
