When a staple of a defense is sidelined with an injury, looking for production elsewhere can be difficult. But, Seahawks strong safety Bradley McDougald never waivered.

A new era of the Legion of Boom has begun. The Seahawks parted ways with legends of the organization. First, the swagger of the defense, cornerback Richard Sherman. Second, Jeremy Lane, who primarily played nickel, was released. Lastly, DeShawn Shead, who was on injury reserve for a majority of 2017, was released to make his best deal as well.

Despite these losses, the Seahawks have retained a consistent strong safety, who made the Chancellor neck injury not the final blow to last fall’s difficult year.

Seahawks re-sign McDougald for 3 years, $13.95 million

At the conclusion of a one year deal signed last march, Seattle inked Bradley McDougald for three years and $13.95 million. There’s no word on any details beyond those terms. Finally, they are holding on to a valuable player. Quite frankly, besides defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, McDougald was the most important free agent to retain.

While the career of strong safety Kam Chancellor is still up in the air. At least, Seattle has made it a top priority to sign one of their own. Whom, has played with free safety Earl Thomas. In addition has grown within a scheme that seems to fit his style of play.

There is no comparing McDougald to Chancellor. Kam is to the Seattle defense as Marshawn Lynch was to the offense. Nevertheless, Bradley is a solid option to implement into the back-end of the defense and just let him play .

Now, Seattle does not have to draft a safety and hope he can play immediately as a rookie. They can pick up right where they left off at the conclusion of 2017 season.

Imagining the Seahawks secondary without pieces like Sherman and potentially Chancellor is difficult to come to terms with for 12s. But, for now there is a veteran who can play along side Earl Thomas, who wants to be in Seattle. All 12s can get behind that.
