Earl Thomas will skip Seahawks minicamp and probably much more

The Seahawks really need Thomas in camp

To be fair, I don’t remember minicamp being specified then, just camp. Pete Carroll specifically said he expected Thomas at Virginia Mason this week, so it’s a moot point. Earl Thomas won’t be with his team this week. With all the turnover on defense, Thomas skipping even three days is a pretty big deal.

Naturally Kam Chancellor won’t be working out this week, as his future is still unknown. Bradley McDougald will be there with his shiny new contract. It sure would be nice for the two of them to get some work in, even for just a few days.

I know a lot of 12s are upset with Thomas for this holdout. Although ultimately this could work in the Seahawks favor. Really it’s true; go read the article. As for me, I don’t blame Thomas for holding out one bit. He’s in the final year of his contract. Yes, $8.5 million is a lot more money than you or I will ever see, I get it. But if he’s hurt this season, that’s it. He’s done.

There are six safeties making more money than Thomas this season, and only one is as good as Number 29. That would be Eric Berry of the Kansas City Chiefs. The other guys? Please, one of them is a rookie. Granted, Dolphins rookie Minkah Fitzpatrick got a $10 million signing bonus, not straight salary. And that bonus will be spread over four years. But on paper, he’s getting more than Thomas.
