The Seahawks announced the signing of 2018 draftee Rasheem Green on Wednesday. Now all Green needs to do is prove he can be a good NFL player.

With the Seahawks announcement that Rasheem Green is under contract, all of the 2018 draftees have now been signed. Not that this is a complete surprise. Basically the way the NFL slots everything in the draft, players have little wiggle room to negotiate.

But Seattle is counting on Green to be good in 2018. The defensive end from USC has first-round talent. But the problem is Green is still young and raw. He will be just 21 years old this season. And in college he had trouble being consistent rushing the quarterback.

Green also had major issues at times with defending the run. But this shouldn’t be such a huge issue with Seattle because what the Seahawks lack is edge rushers. This offseason Seattle signed Tom Johnson and Shamar Stephens, both defensive tackles and both most recently played for the Minnesota Vikings. Seattle also has Nazair Jones and Jarran Reed returning.

But Seattle does not have Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett returning. And that is a big problem. Every NFL defense needs pass rushers. Seattle used to have a bunch of them. But in 2018 only Frank Clark will be the only proven commodity.

The Seahawks also have Dion Jordan and Marcus Smith coming back. Jordan seems to be perpetually injured and already is heading into training camp for this year. Smith has not showed enough where he can come near replacing Bennett or Avril.

But Rasheem Green, this could be your world. Green has the size at six-foot-four and 270 pounds and speed as he run a 4.7 40 to be a good edge rusher. He just needs to be consistent and learn better technique. Will he be able to do this in his rookie season? No one knows. But Seattle needs him to.
