Seahawks roster isn’t as bad as some people think, according to PFF

Think the Seahawks are going away? Don’t count on it, say Pro Football Focus and ESPN. A new article ranks each team’s talent and Seattle appears to be ok.

The Seahawks lost a bunch of good players this offseason. Richard Sherman, Michael Bennett, Sheldon Richardson, Paul Richardson, Cliff Avril are all gone. And that isn’t all the talent that left. So how can Seattle possibly compete for the playoffs in 2018?

Don’t fret, 12s. According the Pro Football Focus, Seattle still has the 12th best roster in the NFL. And coincidentally enough, there are 12 teams that makes the playoffs every season. Of course, there might be a lot more talent in one conference than the other, but this is supposed to be a happy article.

Considering what Seattle lost, having the twelfth best group of talent in professional football is nearly incredible. This also means that even with all the losses, Seattle could make a deep run in the playoffs with the right chemistry and good plays at the right time.

This is still the team of Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin and (one hopes) Earl Thomas. And Kam Chancellor. Therein lies the problem with PFF’s ranking. PFF includes Chancellor on the team and as a starter. The chances of this happening are not great, of course.

Of course, PFF also ranks a few Seahawks lower than they should perform in 2018. For instance, Ethan Pocic has a grade of 35.7. He will be better this year. And Seattle mostly doesn’t play with three linebackers on the field. PFF includes this in the rankings too.

Next: On the flipside, could Pete Carroll be fired this year?

Basically, take the ESPN article formed from Pro Football Focus for what it is. And this means as not a true indication of what to expect from teams in 2018. But I will stand by what I said earlier. The Seahawks could be a playoff team this year.
