Las Vegas likes its betting. This week odds makers announced the chances for who will win the NFL MVP in 2018. Where does the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson rank?

You can tell it is not yet training camp. For the NFL, this is the time for speculation and rumor. This week, Las Vegas announced the odds for who they think will win NFL MVP. And the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson was near the top.

Wilson, of course, has never won an MVP. Last year he may have been the front runner heading into the last month of the season. Still, Wilson scored every one of his team’s offensive touchdowns except for one. What other player would have been required to do that?

In fact, last season Wilson did not receive a single vote for MVP. Maybe he shouldn’t have won the award, but not receiving a vote was the proverbial slap in the face. Tom Brady of the New England Patriots won MVP.

In 2018, Vegas thinks Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers will be the winner. His odds of doing so are 3/2. Brady is second at 7/1.

Wilson is tied for fourth along with Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints at 15/1. Not bad. At least somebody making the odds noticed how valuable Wilson is to his team. Without Wilson, Seattle might have won six or seven games in 2017.

Next: Who's playing special teams for the Seahawks in 2018?

The issue with odds, though, is they are there to be enticing. For instance, just behind Wilson is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo at 20/1. He played less than half the season. So take the odds for what you will: A gamble.
