For fans outside of Seattle, I think it’s easy to overlook Matt Hasselbeck as an exceptional NFL quarterback. He had some tough years towards the end of his time with the Seahawks, made only three Pro Bowls in 17 seasons, and had a good-but-not-great career stat line.

Still, in terms of his impact on the Seahawks franchise, there are no two ways about it. Hasselbeck was one of the great ones, especially for a team without a long history of star quarterbacks.

The one thing that really stands out for Hasselbeck, though, is that he led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl appearance. Although it obviously culminated in a loss, we can’t discredit that he piloted the league’s No. 1 offense, earned Seattle a 13-3 record and got them to the Big Game. Then again, Shaun Alexander deserves some credit, too.

Either way, Hasselbeck earned his right to be on this list. He was the Seahawks’ starting quarterback for 10 seasons, many of which yielded far more positive than negative results. For how few extraordinary gunslingers Seattle has had over the years, I’d say they got it right with Hasselbeck.
