It’s not every day you land a shutdown cornerback in the fifth round. And yet, that’s exactly what the Seahawks did when they took a shot on the Stanford alum and watched him turn into a superstar nearly overnight.

Richard Sherman quickly became the prototype for top-flight cornerbacks, sporting plenty of athleticism, a long frame and the impeccable instincts needed to make opposing quarterbacks think twice about throwing his way. His four Pro Bowls, four All-Pro selections and Super Bowl ring are proof of his unquestionably elite skills.

Some folks may have been turned off by his on-field antics and arrogant approach to the media. It’s understandable, but so is that Sherman was overflowing with confidence. It’s part of what makes him such a nightmare for receivers to play against.

Sherman’s stay in Seattle came to an ugly end, as the team let him walk after an Achilles tear ended his 2017 campaign. Now with the San Francisco 49ers, the Seahawks will be forced to play against him twice a year. Despite the flip-flop to an NFC West rival, Sherman still deserves a spot among the greatest Seattle players in history.
