Seattle Seahawks: 30 greatest players in franchise history
The Seahawks have a long history of outstanding safeties. While I wouldn’t consider John Harris one of the elites of that group, you can absolutely make a case that he belongs in the top 30 players to ever take the field for Seattle.
There are two pieces to this puzzle.
The first is a career characterized by tough, consistent play from one of the Seahawks’ first standout defensive backs. Harris came to Seattle two seasons after the team was created in 1976, and spent the next eight years serving as the complementary piece to one of the franchise’s all-time great safeties, Kenny Easley.
Maybe that’s why he never made a Pro Bowl? Voters were too busy watching Easley to notice the impact Harris was having on Sundays. Still, if look back at the stats, it’s easy to see that the Seahawks’ “other” safety was well worth the recognition.
The second piece is that Harris is currently third on Seattle’s list of career interceptions with 31, and tied the team record for single-season interceptions (10). While he may never be remembered as a superstar, Harris is more than deserving of your admiration.
