Seahawks fifth best player is Michael Dickson, I promise
By Lee Vowell
Michael Dickson hasn’t even punted for the Seahawks yet. But the fifth-round draft pick will be a great player in Seattle for seasons to come.
So, yes. The fifth best player on Seattle’s 2018 roster will be the Seahawks punter. Michael Dickson isn’t the official Seattle punter. Not yet. But we all know who is going to be kicking the ball when needed on fourth down for Seattle in 2018 and beyond. And that is the rookie punter from the University of Texas, Dickson.
Jon Ryan has brought some brilliant and funny moments to Seattle. He has been a more than serviceable punter. But Dickson has more talent. Really, Dickson has more leg talent than nearly anyone who has ever lived on the planet.
12s know the facts. Dickson was the MVP of Texas’s bowl game in 2017. 11 times he punted and 10 were downed inside the other teams’ 15-yard line. The punter was the main reason his team won. When was the last time someone could say that? His coach Dickson’s last year in college, Tom Herman, called the punter a “weapon.”
And Seattle needs Dickson to be great in 2018. The team wants to get back to running the ball with effectiveness. A running team means the potential for more punts and the importance of field position. Dickson can give the Seahawks defense a boost by pinning back the opposing team.
Next: What exactly did Doug Baldwin say about the Seahawks?
And he will. Because if you haven’t seen Michael Dickson punt a ball, you will. And if you haven’t thought you could be excited watching a guy punt the ball, you will. Trust me. Dickson will be the Seahawks punter for years. And he will be a great one. But he is already the fifth best player on Seattle’s roster. So get his jersey now because you will be wearing it for a long time.
