Seahawks training camp notes day 1: And so it begins
By Lee Vowell
Today was the first day of Seahawks training camp. This means today is the start of the 2018 season for 12s. What happened?
Seahawks fans all know a couple of things from today. Earl Thomas did not show. No surprise. We didn’t really expect him, right? Thomas has threatened to hold out all offseason. And he did. Applause for his consistency!
The other item is that Seattle waived – not unexpectedly – Malik McDowell. McDowell, the 2017 second-round draft pick, has never played a down in Seattle and he never will. After being injured in a pre-offseason 2017 ATV accident, McDowell will probably never play in the NFL. I feel bad for him as a person. But let there be a lesson, kids…Don’t do dumb stuff when you are about to make millions of dollars.
What else?
The Seahawks placed Kam Chancellor on the Injured Reserve/PUP list. This means, officially, his season is done. But we all know that Chancellor’s career, probably like McDowell’s, is also done.
Seattle added three tight ends. Their names are Je’Ron Hamm, Kayaune Ross and Kyle Carter. Carter has a bit off NFL experience with the New York football Giants. He appeared in three games and did not do anything.
Hamm caught two passes in 2016. His career total receptions is two. He has played in the NFL for part of three seasons so…
Ross went undrafted and will be trying to making an NFL team in 2018. Coming to Seattle with Ed Dickson, Will Dissly and Nick Vannett already on the roster? Good luck to Ross.
Finally, Dion Jordan appears to be injured again. And DeAndre Elliott was waived. Sad things both. But best left for other articles, I think.
