Seahawks offered the Colts a second-round pick for backup QB?
By Lee Vowell
There is a rumor that the Seahawks offered the Colts a second-round pick for Jacoby Brissett. This seems ridiculous. But is it?
There is a rumor going around – possibly to draw clicks – that the Seahawks offered the Indianapolis Colts a second round draft pick for backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Maybe it is that this is the preseason and rumors abound, but this rumor seems fairly unfounded.
Look, I am the no one of no ones. I don’t really have any real insider information on what Seattle is offering to another team. But this latest rumor seems stupid. And if Seattle really did say to the Colts “we will give you a second-round choice for a quarterback we hope never plays” then I have lost a lot of faith in John Schneider as the general manager of the Seahawks.
But I can safely assume Seattle didn’t make this offer. First of all, Seattle doesn’t have a second-round pick in 2019. And not until 2020 do they. If Seattle did tell the Colts they would trade their second-round draft choice in 2020 for Brissett and the Colts said no then the Colts are idiots.
But all NFL teams know the value of draft picks. Draft choices are cheaper than established players and getting higher round picks means a team can save money and get a decent player. That the Colts would say “no” to a second-round choice for a player they also never hope plays seems implausible.
Plus, Brissett might be a decent backup but there is no proof he would be a good starter. And round-two picks are expected to be starters. There is no way Schneider makes this offer to the Colts. Carry on with your day and look for some real news.
