Seahawks defensive grades vs. Raiders: Frank Clark needs to get paid
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks dominated the Raiders on Sunday 27-3. The defense could hardly have played better.
The Seahawks win on Sunday was a beautiful thing. The offense was excellent. Sebastian Janikowski didn’t miss any kicks. But what the defense did against Oakland was 2013-esque. Here are the grades for the Seattle defense against Oakland on Sunday.
Defensive line
This unit had an amazing game. Frank Clark had 2.5 sacks, forced two fumbles had three quarterback hits and four total tackles. The Raiders simply had no answer for Clark who fed on Oakland rookie offensive linemen.
But Jarran Reed continued his season of dominance too. Reed had another sack on Sunday – his fourth of the season. If Reed doesn’t get to the Pro Bowl there is no justice in this world.
The Seahawks had six sacks against Oakland on Sunday. All of them came from the defensive line. And the Raiders rushed for just 79 yards as well and totalled just 185 yards.
Grade: A+
Linebacker
Bobby Wagner had just four tackles on Sunday? Why? Because the defensive line was so monstrous. Wagner just didn’t have to do all that much. Barkevious Mingo led the team with seven tackles, including a tackle for loss.
Grade: A
Secondary
Look. I am just going to be clear here. There was no unit on the Seahawks 27-3 drubbing of Oakland that did not perform well. I could nit-pick and complain about Shaquill Griffin getting called for a first half hold that he didn’t need to do that gave the Raiders a first down. Or some missed tackles.
But this was still the group that gave Oakland quarterback Derek Carr no real space to throw to. And Carr is a good quarterback. On Sunday Carr threw for 142 yards and had a QBR of just 83.
Grade: A
