Vegas says do not bet on the Seahawks to beat the Lions
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks and Lions are both fighting for a playoff spot. Seattle travels to Detroit on Sunday in a game oddsmakers think Seattle will lose.
The Seahawks and Lions are both 3-3. Seattle plays Detroit on Sunday in a game that is huge for both teams’ playoff hopes. Detroit is 2-1 at home and Seattle is 2-2 on the road. Ridiculously, the Seahawks will be playing their fifth road game already of 2018.
But Odds Shark thinks that the Lions will win by a field goal on Sunday causing Seattle to fall to 3-4. Odds Shark bases their prediction that the team that will win will be the one with the stronger rushing game. Odds Shark thinks the better running team is Detroit.
That’s right: Detroit. Sure, Seattle ranks seventh in the NFL in rushing and the Lions rank 11th, but take that for what you will. Don’t let a silly thing like actual statistics fool the oddsmakers. In fairness, though, Detroit has the most productive running back in Sunday’s game. Kerryon Johnson has 444 yards rushing at a massive 6.4 yards per carry.
But what really detracts from Odds Shark’s preview is that the site says Seattle has running game “limitations.” And that the Seahawks inconsistent running game will not allow Seattle to take advantage of a fairly weak Detroit rush defense.
The last three games Seattle has averaged 172 yards running per game. This is second in the league. Chris Carson has two games over 100 yards in his last three. He missed one week and Mike Davis started. Davis got over 100 yards in week four against the Cardinals, the week that Carson missed.
Seattle can run the ball. If the Seahawks do lose by three to the Lions, it will be for another reason other than Seattle has an inability to rush the football. That you can count on.
