Seahawks moving up in power rankings as they should be
By Lee Vowell
The Seahawks have won four of their last five games and are finally getting some respect. Four national rankings think they are in the top half of the NFL now.
The Seahawks are exceeding expectations. Finally, after winning four of their last five games, Seattle is moving up in some national power rankings. Earning respect has been difficult this year for Seattle but that is slowly changing.
NFL.com
NFL.com has the Seahawks moving up two places to number 15 in the league. There is a funny little bit in their write up of Seattle about how John Schneider called Elliott Henderson, NFL.com’s power ranker. It appears Henderson tweeted about Eric Metcalf and Schneider was involved with bringing Metcalf to the Redskins long ago.
Hey, if a takes a call from a team’s general manager to in some way get a team moving up in the power rankings, I am all for it.
CBS Sports
CBS Sports found Seattle’s win over the Lions this past Sunday very impressive. The Seahawks moved up five spots to number 14. Their synopsis for this is short and basically says, “Seattle surprise; Russell Wilson good.”
And Wilson is pretty good, especially after his perfect passer rating of 158.3 against Detroit. I am happy that Wilson plays his professional football in Seattle.
ESPN
ESPN has Seattle ranked 15th. They moved up one spot from week seven. Brady Henderson points out that the Seahawks still have an issue with being penalized. This is true, though Pete Carroll’s team will always have a few more penalties due to the style of play.
At least a lot of these penalties are not coming from the offensive line in general and Germain Ifedi specifically. Those were the penalties that have really killed Seattle the last few seasons.
Sports Illustrated
SI seemed to be really hard on the Seahawks early in the year, but not so much now. The Seahawks have moved all the way to number 13, up four spots from week seven. But SI does point out how difficult the next four games could be for Seattle. Though if Seattle can go 2-2 in those games they could well be on their way to the playoffs in 2018.
