Grades for the Seahawks in their important win over the Packers
By Lee Vowell
A Seahawks win is a Seahawks win. Thursday night’s game wasn’t always pretty. But the grades are mostly positive.
The first quarter for the Seahawks on Thursday was pretty rough to watch. Chris Carson fumbled. Russell Wilson missed an open Doug Baldwin in the end zone that would have been an easy touchdown. And the defense looked overwhelmed.
Then, slowly, the game began to change. After being down 14-3 after the first quarter, Seattle outscored the Packers 24-10 the rest of the game. If I had had to write grades after the first quarter, they would have been sad and ugly.
Of course, if had to write grades about just the second half, the defense might have gotten all As. Once again, Seattle gave up very little to an opposing offense. The Packers scored just 3 points after halftime. Whatever changes Ken Norton Jr. is making to his unit at halftime are working.
Seattle’s defense gives up an average of 8.2 points in second halves in 2018. Take away the two Rams games and that number falls to 4.7. I am not saying this defense is as good as in previous years but it is good enough to win with. And the defense was one big reason Seattle was in a position to defeat the Packers in week 11.
As for Wilson, he played better than Aaron Rodgers did in the fourth quarter. There isn’t much else you can ask from your NFL quarterback than to be better than his counterpart when it matters. Wilson was better than Rodgers late.
Here are the grades for each unit following Thursday’s win for Seattle.
