Seahawks fans should root for these three teams today
The Seahawks may be off for Thanksgiving, but their minds will still be on football with three NFL games today. These are the teams to root for.
The Seahawks are enjoying Thanksgiving with their families and friends today, but it doesn’t mean they won’t be thinking about football. There are three games today, all of them in the NFC, and all with serious implications for the Seahawks playoff chances. The Hawks will be rooting for these three to win. If yo love your Hawks, get your mojo going too!
Game one: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
The Bears lead their division at 7-3, while the Lions are 4-6, a game behind Seattle for the wild card. A Detroit loss would come close to eliminating them from contention while keeping the Bears out of the wild card picture. This time you can feel good about rooting for Khalil Mack and Da Bears. Hopefully he gets three sacks, forces a fumble, scores a safety and gets a pick six. I don’t think he’s pulled that off yet in one game, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he did today.
Obligatory Raiders dig: Mack has forced more fumbles (five) than the entire Oakland roster (three). He also has just one fewer sack (eight) than Oakland (nine). Damn, Jon Gruden sure is a genius. Two first round picks that may be great, good or a bust for an absolute monster. Anyway, 12s definitely want a Bears win here.
Seattle Seahawks
Game two: Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys
The Redskins lead the NFC East at 6-4, with the Cowboys just a game back at 5-5. Another loss for Dallas would be a very good thing for Seattle, as we have the win in head to head competition, just as with the Lions. Plus there’s the fact that it’s the stinking Cowboys, the organization so arrogant they proclaimed themselves America’s Team.
Two playoff appearances in the last nine years makes your team mediocre at best, Jerry Jones. I’d go into detail about how much I despise Jones and his organization, but we have strict guidelines at FanSided.
As for the game itself, this will be a tough match-up for the Skins after the devastating injury to quarterback Alex Smith. Veteran backup Colt McCoy steps into his shoes for the rest of the season. He’s certainly played well in limited action for Washington with a 98.6 passer rating in nine games. Root root root for the Longhorn coming home and a damaging Dallas loss.
Game three: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints
The Saints lead the NFC South by ten games. Okay, it’s really just three, but 9-1 must feel like that to the 4-6 Falcons. In a season of big offenses, no one s putting up as many points as New Orleans. Drew Brees has a ridiculous 25-1 touchdown to interception ratio, and their running back tandem of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara lead the league in rushing scores with 17. As an aside, I see the Seahawks Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny as the next version of this duo.
As for the Falcons, their season has practically been ruined by injuries. Sounds familiar, right 12s? The Atlanta defense has been porous at best, as they’re 29th in both yards and points allowed. They can still score though, which is why a 45-41 game wouldn’t shock me at all. A Falcons loss would drop them to 4-7 and virtually out of the playoff hunt. A loss for the Saints would just remind them to play harder. If the Seahawks make it to the playoffs, they don’t need a Saints team that’s even more driven. For today, it’s New Orleans all the way.
So 12s, while you celebrate with family, remember all you have to be thankful for. Even better, think of all the blessings the Seahawks are counting today. And by all means, break out your Bears, Redskins and Saints gear. I just have one request – be sure to burn it after the game.
