The Seahawks need one win to make the playoffs in 2018. Are they healthy enough to defeat the 49ers in week 15?

The Seahawks got some troubling news this week. Rookie running back Rashaad Penny will miss Sunday’s week 15 matchup versus the 49ers in San Francisco. Seattle will also be without some other important players, too. But they do get one back as well.

Penny’s injury is the most concerning, though. During Seattle’s week 14 game against the Vikings, Penny suffered some kind of knee injury. Coach Pete Carroll hasn’t elaborated much on the severity of the issue but Penny is definitely out this week. And Carroll isn’t too sure when Penny will return either.

Penny will have an MRI this week so 12s should hope that Penny just suffered a bruise and not a tear. The back has been getting more productive as the season has gone on for Seattle and could be at his best by the time the playoffs start.

This means, of course, that Chris Carson will be the featured back again and may get more carries than normal. Mike Davis will also probably pick up some carries. And J.D. McKissic will see more snaps too.

Linebacker K.J. Wright is once again out as well. Wright has been dealing with his own knee injury all year. In positive news about Wright, he did participate in practice this past week on a limited basis. Any improvement is a good thing.

Guard D.J. Fluker is listed as doubtful but seems to be definitely out. Seattle does not want to rush the big guy back too soon. If Seattle can win just one of its last three games, the Seahawks will be in the playoffs. They will need Fluker for the postseason so not taking chances on complicating his hamstring injury just makes sense.

In good news, though, receiver Doug Baldwin will play on Sunday. Russell Wilson‘s favorite and most trusted target makes a huge difference when he is able to play. Simply put, Baldwin makes Wilson a better quarterback.

On the 49ers side, they are still missing players they thought would help them be successful this season. They are a little healthier than they were in week 13 when San Francisco played in Seattle, though. And running back Matt Breida might be able to play at a higher level than he did in week 13. Breida is listed as questionable but should play.
