The Seahawks lost on Sunday to the 49ers. How did the offense grade?

The Seahawks, as we all know, lost in overtime 26-23 to the 49ers in week 15. This did not end Seattle’s playoff hopes, of course, but Seattle could have clinched a playoff spot with a win. It was a frustrating game.

How frustrating? Here are the offensive grades.

Offense

Quarterback – Russell Wilson

Wilson was better than in week 14’s game against the Vikings. But still, he missed an open Doug Baldwin late in the game when Seattle could have driven for a field goal-winning drive. He didn’t make any awful plays, but he did not make any magical ones either. And many times Seattle needs Wilson to be magical to win games.

Grade: B

Running backs

Chris Carson had a fantastic one yard touchdown run when he simply willed himself into the endzone. Mike Davis had eight catches and was solid. Even without injured Rashaad Penny, Seattle ran for 168 yards. That should have been enough to win.

Grade: B+

Receivers/tight end

Baldwin was good in his return after missing the Vikings game. He jumped for a Wilson pass and turned it into a touchdown. Tyler Lockett caught only two passes, though. And the rest of the receivers were ineffective.

By the way, if anyone spots Nick Vannett, ask him what he is doing nowadays.

Grade: C-

Offensive line

The line was guilty of five holding penalties, at least three of which were bad calls. The Seahawks had several first downs negated by penalties. Ethan Pocic proved he is not ready to play in the NFL and he was guilty of two very late penalties after having to replace injured Jordan Simmons. Not a good day for the line.

Grade: D+

Seahawks playoff chances? Hmmm.... dark. Next

Other thoughts

The play-calling of offense coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was predictable and ineffective. A big issue was that Schottenheimer never really adjusted during the game. Seattle was unable to sustain drives consistently and Schottenheimer should get a lot of blame for this loss.
