The Seahawks announced their inactives for week 16 versus the Chiefs. And Seattle’s injured players are ones they can ill-afford to lose.

The Seahawks will gain a key linebacker back on Sunday, but Seattle will be without several other important players. Seattle will have to have several players step up and be productive while starting against the Chiefs. Will this affect Seattle’s playoff hopes?

The bad news

Seattle will be without starting right tackle Germain Ifedi. Ifedi hasn’t been a Pro Bowl-type player in 2018 but he has been much better than in previous seasons. He also has started every game this year up to Sunday so Seattle will lose some cohesion along the line.

Elijah Nkansah could start in place of Ifedi but Nkansah was only promoted from the practice squad this week. This is a position of concern versus Kansas City.

Seattle will also be without strong safety Tedric Thompson. Thompson has been good this year, but not great. Still, he has built a report with Bradley McDougald as far as communication in the secondary. Seattle cannot afford any lapses against Patrick Mahomes.

The final important player Seattle will be without is running back Rashaad Penny. Seattle, though, did not have Penny last week and still ran the ball well enough. Chris Carson should get a bunch of carries against the Chiefs.

The good news

Not listed on the inactive list are McDougald, guard D.J. Fluker and linebacker K.J. Wright. If McDougald and Thompson were not able to go then Seattle might as well have thrown in the white flag early.

And at least Fluker seems to be able to go. If he and Ifedi were to miss the game, Seattle would have issues running the ball. And the Seahawks need to be able to run the ball to win this week.

Finally, Wright will play. What remains to be seen is how much Wright will play. He could be on limited snaps after missing most of the season with a knee injury. Still, Wright’s presence will help with communication in a game that communication might be the key to winning.
